'No Child Left Behind' Act/ESEA

The National Education Association believes that great public schools are a basic right of every child and devotes its resources and energy to that end.

NCLB purports to seek the same thing, but it has serious shortcomings.  NEA will focus on three priority areas in working with Congress as it considers the reauthorization of NCLB/ESEA:

  • Use more than test scores to measure student learning and school performance.
  • Reduce class size to help students learn.
  • Increase the number of highly qualified teachers in our schools.
